2023 Round 6 - G-FEST Cadwell Park

Monday 24th July 2023

Round 6 of the Ginetta Junior Championship saw the second of the two Ginetta Festivals (G-Fest's) and took place at Cadwell Park on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd July.

This proved to be a more positive weekend for Alisha, bouncing back after a difficult previous round, although there were some challenges in very difficult weather conditions.

SATURDAY 22nd JULY:

Qualifying:

Race 1 = P2

Race 2 = P6

Race 1: P2 - P3

The first race of the weekend offered extremely challenging wet conditions that were set to deteriorate throughout the race. This was especially difficult for Alisha as she had not tested at this circuit in the wet, unlike those immediately around her. The race began as a rolling start as a result of the weather and Alisha was able to hold P2. The leader was able to slowly pull a gap due to knowledge of the track in the wet and she had the driver in P3 glued to her rear bumper for the first 3/4's of the race where she did a great job of defending. However, with 5 minutes to go the driver in P3 was able to get through meaning Alisha had to settle for a P3 finish.

SUNDAY 23rd JULY:

Race 2: P6 - P6

Race 2 saw better conditions albeit greasy rather than extremely wet like Race 1, but Alisha started a little lower down the grid although still in the front pack and she managed to make up some positions early on before dropping back again as the race progressed to take P6 where she started.

Race 3: P6 - P10

As a result of finishing Race 2 in P6, this is where Alisha started Race 3. The weather had deteriorated from Race 2 with wet conditions again. Alisha got an amazing start and immediately jumped up from 6th almost into 3rd but on the outside going into turn two. Unfortunately the car on the inside had a moment on the kerbs and side swiped Alisha causing her to go sideways into a drift before the car behind shunted her causing her to go off onto the grass and spin. This effectively dropped her to the back of the field. From there she raced hard putting in fast laps to catch-up before eventually finishing in P10.

As always, huge thank you goes to Elite Motorsport, Rhys Simpson, Chris & Stefan Hodgetts and Adam Smalley for all the hard work and support throughout the weekend!
